Medium-weight oils rich in oleic acid that penetrate the cortex partially while coating the cuticle surface are most beneficial for high porosity hair: avocado oil, jojoba oil, and olive oil. Lightweight Ayurvedic oils like the Rosemary and Mint Ayurvedic Oils provide these benefits alongside botanical actives. Very heavy oils like castor oil work well as a final sealant on type 4 coily hair. Avoid mineral oil, which coats but cannot penetrate and builds up over time.
